FAQ’s

What is a Workplace Needs Assessment?

A Workplace Needs Assessment helps identify reasonable adjustments that can support an employee to thrive in their role. The process looks at the individual’s job, their strengths, and any challenges they experience due to dyslexia, neurodivergence, or other conditions. The assessor also considers the wider workplace environment and organisational needs before recommending practical solutions. Adjustments may include assistive technology, low-cost changes, workplace coaching, or awareness training for colleagues.

What happens during the assessment?

An experienced assessor will meet with the employee (in person or online) for a semi-structured conversation lasting around 2–3 hours. They will explore the employee’s work history, strengths, challenges, and goals. The assessor may also consult with the line manager or HR team to ensure recommendations are realistic and beneficial for both the individual and the organisation.

Who can attend the assessment?

The employee is the focus of the assessment, but if they wish, they can bring a mentor, union representative, or trusted colleague. The aim is to ensure the individual feels comfortable and supported throughout.

What if I find it difficult to concentrate for long periods?

That’s not a problem. Assessors are skilled at working at your pace and can structure the session in a way that suits you.

Do you need to come to the workplace?

Not necessarily. Assessments can take place online or on-site, depending on what works best. Even without a formal diagnosis, employees can take part in an assessment, and the process will focus on practical needs and adjustments.

How long will it take to receive the report?

A full report with tailored recommendations will be provided within 10 working days. The assessor is also available to explain any points that may need clarification.

Do I need a formal diagnosis first?

A formal diagnosis can be helpful, but it is not essential. A Workplace Needs Assessment can still be carried out without one, focusing on current challenges and reasonable adjustments. However, where needed, we can also arrange diagnostic assessments alongside workplace assessments.
